The FUTURES research programme has been devised to meet the following objectives:

1. Understand opportunities that new technology may bring to improving sustainable urban mobility;

2. Investigate the application of new technologies in urban environments through joint research with stakeholders;

3. Promote and execute trials and demonstrations to translate research understanding into new applications;

4. Promote research findings with industry/government partners to make a practical difference in the development of sustainable urban environments; and

5. Disseminate results through academic journals and across the SUE programme and thus identify further essential research needed in parallel with and beyond the initial FUTURES research programme.
